What is a Bluebird Guardian Home?
A guardian home is a special arrangement where a family provides a permanent, loving home to a breeding dog, while the breeder retains breeding rights for a set period. In this partnership, the dog lives as a cherished pet, enjoying a stable, family environment. When the dog is ready for breeding, the breeder temporarily brings the dog back for health checks and litters. After the agreed number of litters or a set timeline, the dog is fully retired and remains with the guardian family forever. This arrangement allows responsible breeders to maintain high standards, while the dog thrives in a dedicated, family-centered life.
* Stable, family or single person centered home environment
* Ability to keep the dog primarily indoors as a loved companion
* Fenced yard preferred, but not always required depending on lifestyle
* No plans to breed other dogs in the home
* Willingness to maintain communication and partnership with Bluebird
* Commitment to routine veterinary care, grooming, nutrition, and training
* Flexibility for scheduled breeding visits, health testing, and whelping periods
* Located within a reasonable driving distance of Princeton preferred
* Experience with Spitz breeds or moderately active companion breeds is a plus
* Understanding of intact dog management and responsibility - We can help educate
* Agreement to follow Bluebird’s health, nutrition, and care standards
* Financial stability to provide excellent day-to-day care
* Non-smoking home preferred
* Children and other pets considered on an individual basis
* Ability to provide socialization, enrichment, and daily companionship
* Must understand this is a long-term commitment and forever family placement
We are looking for families who view guardian dogs not as breeding dogs, but as cherished lifelong companions first and foremost - it is the Bluebird way.
Our guardian homes are cherished members of the Bluebird program. Opportunities may be available for a young adult or puppy, male or female, depending on the needs of our program. Compensation may also be provided for the love, care, and partnership our guardian families offer, depending on the individual arrangement.

From a deeply loved mother and healthy gestation to carefully selected lines with known histories, every puppy begins life surrounded by care and purpose.

Our puppies are raised with Early Neurological Stimulation, enriched daily, and supported by generations of health history. We know our lines, and we are proud that concerns such as hip dysplasia have not been present in our program.
Most importantly, your journey doesn't end at pickup. Bluebird families enjoy a network of support, friendship, and shared experiences. From puppy updates and family groups to ongoing guidance and celebrations, we're here for the life of your dog.
